Where
we are
Buca of Gracchi is
a starting point for mountain bike excursions and trekking through marked
paths and easy lanes. From here you can walk up to the Mount Roccandagia
(mt.1700) which overlooks the whole valley. Leaving Campocatino you
can reach the Eremo di San Viviano (San Vianos Hermitage), the
patron of querrymen. On clear days Mount Tambura offers a delightful
view of the coast of Versilia and Corsica. Walking down Passo della
Sella you can reach the valley of Arnetola where a particular kind of
marble, called "calcatta" and "arabescato Vagli",
is extracted. It is the one used in Sala Nervi, in the Vatican. Moreover
there is an old quarry which has been turned into a summer theatre with
a special acoustic for concerts and plays in July and August. Passo
della Tambura is crossed by Via Vandelli , which was made by the duke
of Modena in order to reach Malaspina castle in Massa. You cannot miss
visiting the Lake of Vagli that every ten years is dried up due to periodical
maintenance. It is as if the ruins of a ghost village reemerge by magic.
